The Heartland Lions Club was chartered in 1957 by Lions Clubs International to serve the towns of Royalton, Tunbridge and Sharon. The club name, "Heartland", signifies that the club's service area is in the heart of Vermont. Goals of the Club are to promote vision and hearing conservation, assist area residents in purchasing glasses, provide emergency financial assistance, providing information on diabetes, and provide annual scholarships totaling $2,000 for graduating high school seniors. For several decades, the Heartland Lions Club has owned and operated the Paine's Beach recreation area on North Windsor Street in South Royalton. A picnic pavilion, charcoal grills, sandy beach on the White River, and space for family recreational activities are available on site. Paine's Beach is open from Memorial Day through mid-September and is available for reservation for families, church groups and others. The Heartland Lions raise funds through ventures at the Tunbridge Fair, Community Christmas Memory Tree and the annual Valentines Dinner Dance and Raffle. We meet on the 1st and 3rd Mondays at the South Royalton School. We welcome visitors, please come join us. Call Lion Al Jones at 763-7985 with any questions.
